On July 8, 2026, as part of the 12-hour online marathon "Bridges Instead of Barriers: Mediation 2.0" (organized by the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Mikhail Kuzmichev presented a report entitled "Mediation at the Initial Stage of an Open Conflict."

The expert emphasized the value of early mediation intervention: shuttle diplomacy and the timely initiation of the procedure help prevent escalation and maintain control of the situation. At this early stage, the parties are still ready for dialogue; the mediator's key task is to structure communication.

M.A. Kuzmichev outlined indicators for engaging a mediator: initial public statements on the dispute, attempts at mediation, and the cyclical nature of accusations. Particular attention was paid to managing expectations: it's important to clarify in advance that mediation is aimed at creating conditions for rational dialogue, not immediate reconciliation.

According to the expert, early mediation is a way to minimize costs, maintain business relationships, and avoid the dispute becoming formal.
